These Extra Magic Hours are outside of the regular park hours and are only available to Disney World Resort hotel guests. However, with a family of five, I discovered that a regular room would not accommodate us and a suite would have to be reserved instead. If July is the only month you can make it work, it may be worth looking into the cabins - same area, sleeps 5, but comes with AC so that you and the family can stay cool! I literally have been going online and checking about 5 times a day. For five of us, we removed one middle row passenger seat from our minivan and were able to pack our tent, tent poles, two cots, a collapsible bed frame for an air mattress, five sleeping bags, clothing for eight days, winter coats, food supplies, several packs of pop, a heater and other miscellaneous items. Leave any of your thoughts or comments below! We are looking at renting a large size RV so would we be able to stay in the camp wilderness resort? There is no waiting list and we check everyday anytime of the day even early early am and no luck. We did not have any problems with this, but it can happen. The campsites tend to book up pretty far in advance, especially for the holidays a year to a year and a half in advance, per one friendly Fort security guard. I see the canvas tents in the pictures, so I'm wondering if that is possibility. After doing this for one morning, we decided it was quicker and easier to just drive to the parks, especially since we always arrived well in advance of park opening. You'll find that the campground is very safe. Fingers crossed for you! Bicycles are available to rent, and there are areas for basketball and volleyball. The main perks are:. Water and multiple electrical outlets are available near each pad and are disguised to look like a tree stump from the front. For this December, your best bet is just to continue checking in the chance that someone cancels their reservation. We also will pick up just one day at a time and keep adding to our reservation as sites become available, but if you do that it is best to call customer service to put the days together on one reservation. I would love to know of any tricks. The perks staying at Fort Wilderness are excellent. Yes, Fort Wilderness would be where you'd "park" your home for your trip!{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}At Disney resorts, this cost is further increased if your party has more than four people since the vast majority of lodging options are limited to four or less in a room. Even with that huge difference unless you book any holiday at least 6 months in advance at Fort Wilderness you may not get a reservation. Others in the Frog Pond may have some suggestions, as well. Appointments for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique have this same perk. We go twice a year but realize that cost for campsites Fort Wilderness is probably the most expensive campsite in the country. You're able to make a room only reservation at days out, so we suggest making a reservation as soon as you're able. Wondering if anyone has any idea how to get one day I ve been trying since last Dec. We are actually going to be there next month, but we'll be in a trailer with two AC units because Florida in summer! We had brought an electric heater, which worked well for us. This was much more costly and actually was more expensive than reserving two regular rooms. My family is planning to visit Disneyworld next year and is looking at camp wilderness since there will be around 10 family members. I discovered that each campsite could have up to 10 guests, which worked out great for my family. Alternatively, if you have the space, you can bring your bicycles or rent an on-site golf cart to get around the Fort. The check-in time for Fort Wilderness camping is a relatively early 1 p. Not a silly question at all! Security also roams the premises regularly to keep an extra eye out. We have done that numerous times and have never had a time when we were unable to get sites for the weeks we want. They have done it for me multiple times. Fort Wilderness is a natural setting, and as such, there are wild animals on the grounds. With everyone leaving to the parks during the day, that leaves all of our stuff behind for grabs, right? It is brutally hot and humid People do it and if it's your only option I would purchase a portable air conditioner for the tent. Our family loves a good camping trip, but we usually head out of Texas to cooler climates for our summer camping I just have no experience as to what July in Florida is like! Our campsite had a paved parking area and a large, well-packed sandy pad for pitching a tent or parking a pop-up tent camper. Vacation time and life and availability all seem to be lining up Are we insane to think we could tent camp in Florida in July? Any help would be appreciated. We did this, and it was quite helpful because we were able to practice packing the van and make notes about items we decided we needed to bring with us. However, some of the perks you receive as a Disney Resort hotel guest can be valuable enough that you do not want to lose out on them. He lives in Ohio and is employed as a mechanical engineer, which helps to explain his excessive attention to detail, organization and planning. Non-resort guests are limited to 30 days from each date they plan to visit. How safe is it to stay there? It's on our bucket list, too! Even with these drawbacks, the cost advantage and other activities available while camping at Fort Wilderness far outweighed the cons for my family. The pad is very solid, as it took some effort to pound our metal tent stakes in place. One night we awoke to find that an opossum had crawled under the side of our tent and was rummaging around. Just do what you are doing , checking multiple times a day, but usually the best time to pick up sites will be as you get closer to the dates you want to travel and people who booked way in advance start to cancel. Starting days from your arrival date, you can make Advance Dining Reservations for your arrival date, as well as the rest of your stay. It was like a Tetris game getting everything packed, but we were able to do it. Fort Wilderness camping will require packing additional items, so you have to plan that out. You can take a horseback or carriage ride. Hi there. I have dec and But can t get the 6. End resultβ€”- most people feel the extra cost is worth the stay at Fort Wilderness since campsites are definitely in demand. This may be a silly question, but are there tent tht you can rent? So, how can you minimize your lodging expense while still reaping the benefits of being a Disney Resort hotel guest? For those of you who aren't quite ready to rough it in a tent or camper, Fort Wilderness also has a number of cabins that sleep up to six. I have been trying for weeks to get a Preferred Campsite anytime in December. There are multiple comfort stations spread throughout the Disney campground, so bathrooms and showers are never too far away. We've stayed at FW in in an RV, but are considering tent camping next time around They are about 16ft round The tent sites have concrete pads that are 10 feet by 25 feet, and can generally fit up to two tents - so we think this should be okay, though you may be partially on the sand and partially on the pad! The cabins come with one double bed, one pull-down double bed and one bunk bed. You are exposed to the weather. Since you will need to use the comfort stations for the restroom and shower, you may need to wait if they are full. On the flip side, watching baby turkeys meander and hearing the birds sing in the morning is very cool. Really don t know what to do. Our best advice is just to keep trying! We hope this was helpful and that you get to check Fort Wilderness off of your list soon! Another option is to ship your tent ahead of time. I have wanted to stay here for AGES. If you are not familiar with Disney, you may be wondering about the benefits of staying on-site. There ARE tents available for rent, but they are first come, first serve, so we recommend calling ahead. The Disney campground is very large, so if you choose to use Disney transportation, you will first need to take a bus from your loop in the campground to another location, either the boat dock for a ride to the Magic Kingdom or another bus area for transportation to the rest of Disney World. Fort Wilderness is popular, with many returning visitors. It was at this point that I checked out the Disney campground at Fort Wilderness. Is there a trick to this, besides booking a year in advance to doing this??? To cut down on this expense, many people consider lodging at an off-site location. If you do not go into the parks one day, Fort Wilderness offers a number of activities that are not available elsewhere. If you're in a trailer or RV, of course, lock your doors for safety; if you're in a tent, we recommend keeping valuables in your vehicle and locking it while you're gone. Non-Disney resort guests can only make a reservation days in advance, so they miss out on the expanded reservation window and have to arrange reservations for additional days of their trip by contacting Disney when each of the other desired dates reach the day window. I did not want to spend that much on our lodging, especially since we would not be in our rooms much, but I did want the Disney Resort perks. The Fort's squirrels are notorious thief, too. Getting pretty frustrated with it and wondered if there is a time of day that the system drops those who cancel. If the camping portion is a must and you'll be tent camping, we'd recommend aiming for some of the cooler months - really, any time from November to March or so should be manageable in the tent.
